emoncms3 and ie8

Is anyone using emoncms with IE8?  It works fine for me on my home PC with IE9, and in firefox and Opera, but none of the JavaScript will work on IE8 at work.  I've checked all the usual culprits in settings, but to no avail. (And I manage the team that deals with web security and browser settings!)

Thanks

Just tried on an IE8 at home, and no joy. Any clues anyone?

Re: emoncms3 and ie8

Do the flot library examples work? http://people.iola.dk/olau/flot/examples/

If they work ok then it should be fixable.

Re: emoncms3 and ie8

The examples do appear to work, which is a good sign.  It is worth pointing out that no functionality from emoncms appears to work in IE8 - not even the list of inputs or feeds.

Re: emoncms3 and ie8

Ok I have replicated the issue but still not much closer to solving it, as you point out the inputs and feeds list also don't work, I found that this flot/jquery visualization does work: http://vis.openenergymonitor.org/emoncms3/Vis/MultiGraph/hp.php

The only main differences I can think of is the use of setInterval(update_list,2000); for updates and the location in the page that the jquery script is declared from. I will keep looking.

Re: emoncms3 and ie8

I think I may have sorted this, so please don't spend anymore time on it for now. I'll try and create a github pull request when I'm happy it is working.

Thanks a lot Lloyd, this will be a great help, I think there will be many appreciative people: http://openenergymonitor.org/emon/node/301#comment-4077

Re: emoncms3 and ie8

A quick update on progress.  I think I have the dials and now the led working for the dashboard.  I will try and take a look at some of the other graphs, and see if I can make any of those work.  The issue is that the software uses html5, which is not supported in IE until IE9. I've had to dumb down the led for ie8 and below to make it work - not quite as pretty, but still serves the purpose.

I'll probably grab the latest master from github, put my changes for the dashboard into that, issue a pull request and then try and fix some of the other bits.  If my changes for import/export have not been incorporated when I grab my master, I 'll probably add those as well.

Are there any procedures for updating an existing installation of emoncms to the latest?

Re: emoncms3 and ie8

Hello Lloyd the procedure for an update is to download or "git pull" the latest version and then in the setup.php script enable $runnable and run the script. This will update any changes to the database if any and give you a verbose output of any changes, see: http://openenergymonitor.org/emon/emoncms/upgrading

Re: emoncms3 and ie8

I switched to Chrome and have no more issues.

Emoncms3 has too many problems with IE, and it's really not worth trying to make it work.

 @tgmaxx

i work with a home automation tool that uses an embedded code that uses IE, so i am NOT able to use another browser. This way i must use IE to display these graphics...

so can someone help me to get this clear?

Re: emoncms3 and ie8

I assume that this is a fairly new install of emoncms?  My slightly behind version produces acceptable results on IE8 (see attached), but I don't know what has changed.  Unfortunately I don't have any time to look at this.  Could you upgrade to IE9?  If you like I'll look at your site on IE9 tonight to see how it looks (I usually use Chrome).

Re: emoncms3 and ie8

Same issue here. no joy at IE8 and also no dail graphics at IE 9.08 (latest) but it workes fine on firefox, chrome and safari (iphone). It's a brand new install from the github. So I aspect that one of the latest changes causing this old problem again?

you could look at: http://energy.bluemotica.nl/alco/dailsdashb for a dashboard with this problem. I also have other issue's with the CKeditor but I don't know if it's related.. see topic: 935 for that... (but no postings from other users on my questions there..)
