I have an Elster smart meter similar to the one in the article http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Elster+REX2+Smart+Meter+Teardown/5710 I would like to be able to read the meter remotely. Should I expect to be able to do this by using a XBee, the meter has "Support for 900 MHz and 2.4 GHz ZigBee communication". But I wonder if someone with experience in this area could tell me if its likely encrypted.
