Raspberry boot problem with the downloaded image: emoncmsraspberrypihdd_stack.tar.gz (791Mb),

Hello everybody,

I have tried to  follow the recommendation : Setup Emoncms on a RaspberryPI with a Hard drive (http://emoncms.org/site/docs/raspberrypihdd) by adding a hard drive to the Raspberry .

I have loaded my Raspberry's SD card and hard disk with the images extracted from emoncmsraspberrypihdd_stack.tar.gz.

I have connected the hard drive to Raspberry through the USB interface.

The boot process of the Raspberry is interrupted with the message :

"  VSF = Cannot open root device 'sda2' or unknown block (8,2) error -6
Please append a correct "root=" boot option. "

Has anybody an idea of where it comes from and what I can do to solve the problem?

Thanks

Ben

The error message you're getting indicates your Pi isn't recognizing your USB hard disk drive. If you are attempting to power the hard drive from the Pi USB port, the drive may be a larger load than the USB port/Pi power supply can handle. If you haven't already done so, try powering your hard drive from a separate supply.

Have you also go an SD card inserted the the SD card image (it's in the zip file) called boot.img loaded?

Thanks for your reply

I omitted to say that my hard drive has its own power supply.

Furthermore, I did some additionnal tests this morning with the same hard drive, but with a SD card flashed with standard Raspian OS. In this configuration I am able to mount the hard drive and read and write on it.
