Using OptoCoupler instead of AC-AC Adapter to Measure Line Voltage/Current

Does anybody has some experiments replacing AC-AC adapters by cheap optocouplers?

I know cheap optocouplers are not linear but want to know potential use of them.

RobP did a lot of work using a linear optocoupler here

No-one should attempt to construct any device that has a direct connection to the mains supply unless they are fully conversant with the safety requirements in their country. Just because "it works" does not mean that it is necessarily safe under all conditions. That link shows how to do it safely. [And in case you are wondering, RobP is like me a Chartered Electrical Engineer.]
