Searching in Long Forum Threads

When using the search facility, if the phrase appears in a long forum thread (Robin shouldn't create such popular discussions), the search only returns the first page of the thread.  You then have to manually step through to find which page of the thread contains the required phrase.  This is a real pain for a thread with 10+ pages.  Is there an easier way to do this?

Re: Searching in Long Forum Threads

I agree it's a pain, and I don't know of a work-around. I think it's possible for the administrator to set the number of comments per page on a global basis, so probably the easiest solution for Trystan to implement (if it is indeed even possible), would be an optional switch to deliver the whole thread as one page - then your browser search would handle it without difficulty.

(i.e. first  1  2  3  last  all)

OK, not as neat as keeping the pagination as it is and having the search deliver the correct sub-page, but better than what we have.

Re: Searching in Long Forum Threads

I've ust set it to 300 posts per page up from 50, is that better? On the topic of search, Id like to replace the drupal search with a google site search. I usually use google to search the site is seems much better at it. I just type openenergymonitor and then what I want to find.

So my longest thread has now shrunk to a mere 3 pages :(   :p

Re: Searching in Long Forum Threads

there is a trick with google search for those that haven't yet come across it;.

Type this syntax in the google search box:

site:openergymonitor.org searchterm

will search this site only, hint: you can use it for other sites too:)

hope that helps.

Re: Searching in Long Forum Threads

When I tried with the "site:" prefix, Google found nothing, but this search:

openergymonitor.org Router

came up with two hits.  Not sure why it didn't find any more ...

Re: Searching in Long Forum Threads

? ? ? I got 1300

The syntax for the query should be router site:openenergymonitor.org

See here Obviously most people never need most of these, but it's worth remembering they exist for that rare occasion when you need one of them.

Of course, I could rub it in: Try this instead
