Noobie Programmer Question

Hi,

After my failed attempts at the emonTxShield, I have now got an emonTx to build. I also bought a USB to UART programmer.

I'm thinking about adding one of Martin Harizanov's Funky units to my system to collect temperature data remote from the emonTx, but having failed to get the emonTxShield working with my Arduino Mega 2560 (noob on that as well!), I'm a bit hesitant to assume things.

Firstly, can I expect to be able to receive data to my RasPi from emonTx AND a separate Funky? (all at 868MHz)

Secondly, I see that I need a programmer for a Funky. Is it by any chance the same as the USB to UART programmer as I have just bought from the OEM shop? I can see that there are different connectors- I wondered if the "USB2UART" programmer is the same as a "six pin ISP programmer"

Thanks

Andy.

Re: Noobie Programmer Question

I've recently built an emonTx kit and it works fine with a USB to UART programmer from the shop, including the RF.

But only on my OS-X 10.5 Mac.  I've yet to get this combination to work on my Windows laptop ...

It works fine under Windows XP for me. I get a new serial port, COM4, when I plug in the programmer and emonTx, and tell that to the Arduino IDE.

Re: Noobie Programmer Question

I built the emonTx last night, loaded the drivers for the USB to UART programmer on a Dell laptop running Win7, set the already installed Arduino IDE 1.0.3 to Uno, and downloaded a sketch to the emonTx without any problems. The sketch is now running on the emonTx. Don't know if I have radio transmissions yet.

The question I asked at the start was whether the USB2UART programmer I use with the emonTx is the same as the unit that I would need to talk to a Funky (yet to be bought)?

The other question was whether a RasPi would receive data from both an emonTx and a Funky as part of a 'network'.

Re: Noobie Programmer Question

Try a PM to Martin Harizanov for answers to those. He does pop up here now and again, but probably hasn't noticed your question yet.
