I have had a search on the forum and after reading the article on Measuring AC Voltage with an AC to AC power adapter i was wondering if you could use the same adapter to power the node?
The circuit would using appropriate regulators, bridge rectifiers etc for the 5v dc supply, i was just wondering if this would cause any issues with the measuring of the AC Supply with the adapter (i don't think it will)

Yes, all the research has been done, but if you think about it for a moment for a simple circuit, bridge rectifiers are out. It's called the emonTx SMT, currently in development. Schematics etc are available, see this thread.
