RFM69pi firmware making use of RFM69 features (e.g. encryption)

Hi guys,
just upgraded from RFM12pi to RFM69pi. Looking at the firmware and reading this http://openenergymonitor.org/emon/node/10167 I understand that RFM69 features aren't supported for compatibility reasons yet. Is that correct?
While upgrading my base station, I am also upgrading my nodes to RFM69 modules and corresponding libraries. Now I am also looking into features like encryption coming with the RFM69. Will there be an RFM69pi firmware version addressing those topics anytime soon, or did I just missed it and it's already somewhere?
I felt very happy to care about the sketches on my nodes only and just using the pre-installed RFMxxpi firmware, as it was serving my needs perfectly.
