Utility meter magnetic attachment?

I'm aware that some utility meters allow attachment of optical pulse sensors via a magnetic ring. I am working on obtaining a sample of a optical sensor with magnetic attachment: http://www.tespro.com.cn/en/TP-12.php.

Does anyone know the magnetic arrangement of the meter magnetic ring, i,e the location of the North and South magnetic poles?

I hope in the future we will be able to offer this sensor to fit the emonTx and emonPi

Do you know how many meters have this attachment?  I tried a neodium magnet on a coule of meters which I had access to, and neither seemed to offer it...

No I'm not sure how many have it. I know some do, like this one: http://smarthomeenergy.co.uk/sites/smarthomeenergy.co.uk/files/images/smart-meter.preview.jpg

Maybe it's best just going with double sided sticky attachment. However magnet would be very nice if it avaialbe

I thought about laser-cutting some double-sided stick (tape or foam pads) for this.  Pads might be good for keeping stray light out too.

Velcro maybe another option, it allows the sensor to be removable (like the magnet) and and could also cope with less than perfect surfaces while providing a fairly light tight fit (as per the double sided tape/pads)

Looking good!

Just an idle thought, but I wonder if black velcro would be even better at keeping stray light out?

Very excited about this, blog post coming soon. It works great, plug and play with emonpi and emonTx. Velcro is back on actual unit
