Problem with emonGLCD

I just bought and assembled emonGLCD that came with RFM69 transmitter or at least I think so because there is a "RF69" text on the chip and the crystal is SMD. The test sketch works ok but when i try to use a sketch which uses radio the emonGLCD will not power on after sketch upload. I tried with HomeEnergymonitor sketch. I can see from emoncms page that the emonTX sends data. I have a raspberry pi that sends the data to emoncms.

If I use  the "#define RF69_COMPAT 0" then it powers up but don't receive anything from emonTX.

If I use the "#define RF69_COMPAT 1" in the sketch then the emonGLCD will not power up after upload.

Re: Problem with emonGLCD

Oh mine...I soldered the RFM69 so that the crystal is to the left as said in the building instructions (there is only mentioned the RF12B). Now it seems that RFM69 should however be soldered in other way round...

Re: Problem with emonGLCD

I managed to de-solder the RFM69 and turned it around. It was a terrible job but now it works! It would have been nice if it was mentioned in the build guide that the RFM69 is assembled differently than RFM12B...

Re: Problem with emonGLCD

Apologies about that, obviously the build guide got forgotten. I've added a warning and instructions, would you be good enough to check and let me know if I've got it right. (I don't have an unassembled GLCD and RFM69 that I can assemble to test and photograph.)

Re: Problem with emonGLCD

Yes, the gold dot goes upper right. I had to give such amount of heat to the pcb that it is a miracle that the poor chip is still alive and one of the soldering pads disintegrated from the main pcb. A little extra work was therefore needed but the best thing is that it works, at least so far...

Re: Problem with emonGLCD

Thanks. I'll use Gimp on a photo and put a RFM69CW on it. Glyn doesn't have a GLCD with the new radio. It's unlikely anyone else will have the problem and the kits are sold out and might not reappear.
