EmonTH no longer reporting temps/humidity

Hey guys,

bought an emontx3, rfpi v2 and emonth back in January, it has been all well and good until yesterday morning. Since then, the emonth is no longer reporting temps back to my raspberry pi. When I put the python process in debug mode, I see reports coming from node 10 (emontx3) but not from node 19 (emonth).

I have rebooted the full setup a few times, changed the batteries on the emonth, I see a red light when inserting the batteries, same as before, but it does not seem to report anymore. Last updated just says inactive now on the interface (i am sending the data directly to emoncms.org).

Do I have a possible hardware failure with that sensor? Anything I can try before contacting customer service?

Thanks in advance,
Steph

If you have a fdti usb lead? You could try connecting to it and see what's happening (or not) over serial.

Do you see any activity on the rfm12b board ? if yes it could be a range/interference issue.

Thanks for your reply, I do not have such a cable but good cable, I will source one to see what is happening.

Which exact cable type to I need for this? arduino to USB?

Just a thought though, by that theory, if there was interference going on, the emontx3 would most likely not transmit any data either no?

The programmer lead sold in the shop http://shop.openenergymonitor.com/programmer-usb-to-serial-uart/

Quite possibly! but not definitely, I was just suggesting a quick visual check you could do to narrow the search. No RFM activity light suggests problem is in emonTH where as a normal flashing activity light flashing once every so often (~60secs) could mean something external to emonTH.

If emonTx and emonTH were at opposite ends of house and rfm2pi in the middle you could quite easily upset one but not the other.

Re: EmonTH no longer reporting temps/humidity

Hey Paul,

Thanks for your reply. I checked the emonth and even though the red led lights up when i put the batteries in, no heartbeat even happens after, changed batteries too just to make sure but nothing, I am starting to think it might be faulty. I did move the emonth next to the rfpi to see if it was a distance issue but nothing, still shows as inactive and no "node 19" in the logs :/

Anyone know what is the warranty on these?

Re: EmonTH no longer reporting temps/humidity

Well, I do not know what to say, I fully recharged another set of batteries and the thing came back online. My theory is that it was slightly unhappy and removing batteries for over an hour completely emptied any memory it might have. Now back online and graphing...

Sorry for the noise, and thanks for the suggestions.
