OpenEnergyMonitor switchable energy measuring plug (like "Spark" on Kickstarter)

This is a cool device, but why is 'everyone' with these similar devices using WiFi? Doesn't this consume a lot more energy than a RFM12B?

It would be cool if OpenEnergyMonitor/Megni did a Kickstarter for a device like Spark, but with a RFM12B and a Energymonitor IC ADE7768 or similar: http://www.analog.com/en/analog-to-digital-converters/energy-measurement/products/index.html integrated. And maybe also a wall plug with integrated energy monitor capabilities. Something like the HexaBus Plug: https://github.com/mysmartgrid/hexabus/wiki/HexaBus-Plug

Do you guys thinks we can pull this off as a community project (and launch to the large public via Kickstarter)? I would love to see devices like this being developed. Only my electronics knowledge isn't enough to develop things like this on my own.

Anyway, this is just a shout-out to something I would love to have and I was curious if other people from the OpenEnergyMonitor community were interested in such devices.

I just got my Pinoccios and they are awesome.  I'd like to see how the energy monitoring board can be modified to support the Pinocc.io.  The mesh networking would be ideal for transmitting data over longer ranges to the lead scout.  I have a TED and the A/C line noise limits where I can plug in the over-power receiver/gateway.  The Pinoccio has mesh networking and wifi so no need for a separate base station.  I'd also like to add an onboard transformer so the monitoring board can be plugged directly into the power panel (120/240V).
